Safety & trust
We know exactly what you're wondering before installing an app like ours: can I use it with peace of mind? It's a fair question, and it deserves more than a slogan. Here, point by point, is what frames every outing on SugarFriend. Nothing more than what really exists in the app, nothing less.
- The Sugar suggests the outing and pays for all of it
- Adults only (18+), reporting and blocking built in
- Mutual reviews after every outing
A clear framework: whoever invites pays
The awkwardness of going out with people you don't know usually comes from vagueness. Here, there is none. Before asking to join, the Friend knows everything: the activity, the place, the date, the time, the price range, and the fact that the Sugar covers the whole cost. Nobody discovers the rules along the way.
Above all, the invitation is a gift, not a trade. The Friend owes nothing, neither during nor after. A Sugar who hinted otherwise would be stepping outside the app's framework, and their profile can be reported. That's the whole difference between generosity and a transaction: on SugarFriend, there is only the former.
What others see of you
Your profile shows just what's needed for people to want to share an outing with you, no more: your photos, your first name and the initial of your last name, your age, your city, your interests and your rating. Your full name never appears, and your contact details are not displayed. What you share later in the chat is up to you, at your own pace.
Four safeguards, always on
-
Adults only (18+)
Your date of birth is requested when you create your account, and minors are refused. SugarFriend is an app for adults going out with adults, and that's non-negotiable.
-
Report and block
A profile, an invitation or a message makes you uncomfortable? You report it in two taps, right from the app. And if you never want to hear from someone again, you block them: the chat is cut off, their profile disappears from your discovery feed and no invitation can circulate between you any more, in either direction. No half measures.
-
Reviews both ways
After every outing, participants review each other. The average rating is visible on profiles; detailed reviews stay private. Trust doesn't rest on declarations but on real outings: someone who behaves badly gets noticed, fast.
-
Active moderation
Every report is examined by our team, with the context needed to understand what happened. Behaviour contrary to the app's framework (inappropriate insistence, any attempt to turn the invitation into an exchange for anything whatsoever, inappropriate content) exposes its author to sanctions up to and including account deletion.
Good habits
The app sets the framework, and a few simple habits do the rest. SugarFriend outings naturally take place in public venues, a restaurant, a concert hall, a museum: keep that reflex, especially for a first outing. Tell someone close where you're going and with whom. And until you know the person well, keep your conversations in the app's messaging: if something goes wrong, it lets us act on a report.
How invitations work in detail is on the How it works page, and the questions we get asked most have their answers in the FAQ.
